Prometheus Research Paper

Man was created from clay by the hands of Prometheus. Prometheus was a Titan God who sided with Zeus in the war of the Titans and hence was not imprisoned in mount Tatarus. After Prometheus moulded man from clay Athena breathed life into man. Prometheus loved man and thought them his favourite creation, and because of this he made man stand upright as only the gods had done before. Here we understand that Prometheus was beginning to form what we known to be creation man in the image of a God. However, Zeus strongly disliked man and because of this forced them to sacrifice a portion of each animal slain for food to the gods. Prometheus using cunning tricked Zeus out of this harsh law. The first of which is the construction of the female body as punishment for man. This creates a situation in which men and women are diametrically opposed as forces of good and bad. The male body created for the love of creation is represented as good while the female body created from the scornful and vengefully minded hands of Zeus is a negative tour de force. To further fuel the fires of difference Zeus presents Pandora with a box made to cause mass destruction on earth. While Zeus instruct her never to open it, it is clear that he fully believes that she will disobey this order, betraying her creator. His lack of faith in the human kind is extremely evident here. When Pandora does eventually disobey Zeus command she unleashes a wash of misfortune onto the earth, making her the creator of that misfortune. They may curse the Gods part in it but it cannot be denied that the text shows she was also to blame.
