Prometheus takes fire back from Zeus as Zeus’ action is undertaken in an incorrect manner as he does not give a gift in reply to the previous gift instead, he takes something which continues the theme of exchange (Nagy, 1981). Prometheus hides the fire within a hollow fennel stalk, thus continuing the deceptive gift theme, allowing men once more to regain their status above animals (Brien & Major, 1982). This greatly angers Zeus and ends up being the reason that the final myth occurs as Zeus seeks to punish men even further. He replies to Prometheus’ initial deceptive gift in the correct manner this time, with the giving of another deceptive gift, Pandora (Nagy, 1981). Pandora is created by Hephaestus and is given many gifts from the other gods to make her exterior look increasingly appealing (Brien & Major, 1982).…

The male body created for the love of creation is represented as good while the female body created from the scornful and vengefully minded hands of Zeus is a negative tour de force. To further fuel the fires of difference Zeus presents Pandora with a box made to cause mass destruction on earth. The Wrongs and Rights of Ego in Society “The word which can never die on this earth, for it is the heart of it and the meaning and the glory. The sacred word: Ego” (Rand 123). In the conclusion of Anthem, Prometheus refers to ego as a holy word that defines his newfound independence, but this can’t be entirely true because in modern society the opposite is true. The common man refers to ego as arrogance. How can there be two different outlooks on ego, when realistically, there should be a singular definition?…

In both the bible and Greek mythology, the first women to inhabit Earth are essentially viewed as the downfall of mankind due to their flawed characteristics of temptation and curiosity. While Eve was created to be the companion to Adam, Pandora was crafted to be Zeus' gift of destruction to mankind for Prometheus' constant disrespect towards the various Gods. As a result of the selfish acts made by both women, the overall tone of humanity had been severely altered due to the incorporation of newly discovered evils that have plagued all of existence. The source of evil told by both the bible and ancient Greek myths provided invaluable themes and lessons in order to demonstrate the true power of an individual's decision. Pandora and Eve had essentially become the most destructive women in history because they had fallen victim to their natural human instincts.…

For the last two weeks, after reading the Prometheus Myth, Genesis, and Paradise Lost the questions that have been prompted are: “At what point have you sought too far in the pursuit of knowledge?”, “Is all that you have lost comparable to all that you have gained in the pursuit?”, and ”Why is a woman depicted as both a bringer of salvation and damnation?”. In all three of the readings, the most common underlying theme dealt with the fine line between the attainment of knowledge and power. Prompting me to ask the fourth question of, “Did Zeus/God go to far or did the lesser beings ergo humans or archangels?”. Beginning with the Prometheus Myth and Genesis, in each depiction we witness the humans disobeying Zeus/God’s will either knowingly or unknowingly and as a result witness both the good and the bad. By disobeying their will the lesser beings were able to come into knowledge no longer were they ignorant or prey.…
