In the story of Prometheus, Prometheus has his liver pecked out by Zeus’ eagle every night and his liver would grow back every day. Only in the past few years have we really started to learn about stem cells and the true capacity of them; however we have known for a while that the liver has one of the fastest regrowth rates of any organ. How did the Greek people know this? “Some scientists and historians like those of think it was a wild guess and that they had no way of understanding the significance of their story, but there are some who believed that the Greeks were preforming surgery. However most of this is speculation and educated guesses seeing as we have no way of knowing what happened thousands of years ago” Power 422-423. What if the Ancient Greeks really did have the knowledge to perform surgery and had knowledge of liver regrowth? Could we be doing research now that was done thousands of years ago? Stim-cell research is very prominent now but there are many moral issues with it; if the Greeks had been performing the research there might not have been as many moral issues. So are we holding ourselves
