Prometaphase And Metaphase

Decent Essays
The chromatin fibers condensed into chromosomes. As the nuclei disappears, each chromosomes are duplicated as two sister chromatids joined by centromeres. Mitotic spindles are formed in the cytoplasm by centrosomes and microtubules during prophase. During prometaphase, the mitotic spindles move apart and the kinetochores form at the centromeres. Some microtubules are attached to kinetochores and move chromosomes. During metaphase, mitotic spindles move to the opposite poles. Then the chromosomes are pulled by the kinetochore microtubules at the metaphase plate. Sister chromatids are still attach to the kinetochore microtubules. In anaphase, two sister chromatids are separated, and become full-fledged chromosomes. The separated daughter chromosomes

Purpose and Background Cells divide in two ways, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is used to produce cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell for growth, asexual reproduction, or repair after injury. Cells that are produced by mitosis are diploid, meaning that they have two complete sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. Meiosis is used to produce haploid cells that have only one set of chromosomes, a mix of chromosomes from both parents. Meiosis produces cells that are genetically unique from their parent cells.…

Inside the ovary there are ovules that contain megasporangium (2n) that produce megasporocytes (2n) that can undergo meiosis to produce four megaspores (n). Only one of the megaspores survives, remaining inside the ovule. Integuments surround the ovule closing off nearly all of the ovule except a small opening, known as the micropyle. The process creates the female gametophyte, the embryo sac, which among other things contains an egg and two polar nuclei. Wind or pollinators causes the pollen grain to land on the stigma where it forms the pollen tube which allows the two sperm to travel into the embryo sac.…

If there is crossing over between the centromere and the ascospore color gene, the chromatids will separate so each has a different allele. This will cause the first and last two ascospores to have different phenotypes. After meiosis II and mitosis, the tetrad will have an unrecombined order in terms of ascospore color including 2:2:2:2, 2:4:2, or any other non 4:4 sequence. This is termed the second division segregation (Glase, 1995). The amount of each in the sample allow for the data to figure out the gene-centromere…

Telophase/cytokinesis occurs when there is no longer a mother/father pair together, After the completion of meiosis I, the cells are no longer diploid cells, but rather haploid cells. Meiosis II also has four phases including prophase II, metaphase II, anaphase II, and telophase II/ cytokinesis. Prophase II occurs when spindle fibers reform and attach to the centromeres. Metaphase II consist of the chromosomes lining up to prepare for the division of centromeres in the next phase.…

Emotions of negativity trail with Gregor Samsa in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, as Gregor’s body slowly transforms into a bug-like body size of a human; resulting in undesired “torture” from his family and himself. Although change isn't always followed with horrid results, it's hard to adjust to, since pain, suffrage and misunderstandings create obstacles. Discomforts of a specific situation leads to pain- state of being hurt- when something in movement is not welcomed. To feel loved is necessary in a human-being’s life; once loneliness wraps around one’s life, things begin to shift; and others surrounding one, gradually begins to be affected. For instance, when Gregor overheard that his sister, Grete- which was the only one who ever cared…

Centrosomes are also present and they contain important spindle fibers which develop during the process of cell division. Main Functions: Endoplasmic Reticulum- a network of tubular membranes within the cytoplasm of the cell, occurring either with a smooth surface (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) or studded with ribosomes (rough endoplasmic reticulum) involved in the transport of materials. Nucleus- a dense organelle present in most eukaryotic cells, typically a single rounded structure bounded by a double membrane, containing the genetic material (Contains: nuclear pore, nucleolus, nucleoplasm, and nuclear envelope) Golgi Apparatus-…

Results 14 – 3 -3 sigma gene produces 4N cell having an irregular shape 14 – 3 – 3 sigma gene was overexpressed to determine its function in tumor cells. The amount of living cells for G was 81% while for the S sample, 73% was measured. This unexpected minor difference may be due the stress caused while handling the sample e.g. the incubator was opened several times causing fluctuation in temperature, essential gases (e.g. oxygen) and the cells were taken out of the incubator for transfection, seeding and addition of nocodazole. As 14 – 3 – 3 sigma (S) was found to be a tumor suppressor, arresting cells in the G2 or M phase of the cell cycle3, it`s hypothesized, overexpression of S leading to cells containing more 4N cells than in G.…
