The Prolotherapy Disadvantages
Although rare, there are few reported side effects of the prolotherapy treatment. The worst possible side effect is developing an infection at the injected site. The infection will result in pain and fever and is normally easy to treat with the use of antibiotics. Part of the prolotherapy disadvantages is the temporary pain or swelling at the injected area.
There are no extensive researches yet about prolotherapy so this may mean that there could be other side effects that are yet to be discovered. Another potential concern is one that involves using sugar in the treatment process. Some doctors believe that the buildup of sugar in the affected joint may cause damage to the patient’s joint and it may have a long-term effect. However, this theory is also not shown or proven.
