At just 14 weeks a babies entire body surface, with the exception of the back and top of the head are sensitive to pain, leaving many arguing this as a main point as to why abortion should be illegal. By having this information, along with the fact that a baby can survive outside the womb at only 21 weeks, it is inconceivable to prolifers that abortions would be allowed, especially up to the time period that has been set by the 1967 abortion act. There is also the effect such a procedure could have on the mother. It is a step that not many women take lightly, but it can have a major effect of their mental and physical wellbeing. Abortions are thought to create medical complications in later life. It is thought to create an increase in miscarriage likelihood for the woman and pelvic inflammatory disease can increase as a result of an abortion. Having the procedure also doubles the risk of ectopic pregnancy, where the baby starts to grow in the fallopian tubes rather than the womb. I am of the view that every life is a life no matter whether the woman wants the child or not there are many women out there not lucky enough to be able to conceive a child of their own who would be more than grateful of the opportunity of adoption. However, I do agree with a law being in place for abortions to be carried out under specific circumstances such as a danger to the mother’s life; serious health issues caused by the pregnancy or sever disability where the unborn child would have no standard of living and also where the woman has been the victim of a rape. Neither of these circumstances would be fair for the woman or
