The planning phase is the second step in the project life cycle. Kloppenborg and Tesch (2015) suggested that the planning phase is like a road map for the project that guides the project manager from the beginning to the end of the project. Furthermore, it specifies the tasks that will be accomplish and the deliverables that will need to be created. The project planning phase could also serves as an instrument for communicating with the stakeholders and the project members. Thus, the planning phase for the Amiodarone Protocol will identify all the tasks that needs to be carried out and its deliverables. Therefore, tasks must be completed on time for the success of the project. McCullough and Sims (2012) stated that if a task or part of the project does not meet the set deadline then the entire project will be delayed. For example, if the Information Technology (IT) Department is swamped with more urgent work or they are having trouble developing the order set for the Amiodarone Protocol then the project will be delayed. The project plan, pathway/workflow redesign, screen design, order set, Amiodarone Protocol, and clinical decision support are all crucial activities that must follow an arrangement of tasks for the success of the project (see Appendix B). McCullough and Sims suggest that these arrangement of tasks follows a path that links critical tasks together and are crucial to the duration of the project. Once alert has being triggered, the health care provider can initiate the Amiodarone Protocol and follow the directions in the order set. According to Chan et al. (2012), order sets are usefully assembled medical instructions that work to systematize conclusion and treatment taking after pre-set up clinical standards. The order set for the Amiodarone Protocol should read as per order: (1) notify the cardiac surgeon if the patient meets the criteria for prophylactic Amiodarone prior to surgery; (2) give Amiodarone bolus per order; (3) start continuous Amiodarone drip at 60 milligram/hour for 6 hours, then decrease rate to 30 milligram/hour for 18 hours; (4) initiate oral Amiodarone once patient start taking sustenance orally or has being on the Amiodarone drip for 24 hours; and (5) stop the continuous Amiodarone drip 2 hours after the first dose has been taken orally.
