Some might ask, “What is a project loon?” A project loon is described as “balloon-powered Internet for everyone”. (2) The balloons are fifteen meters across and are filled with helium. The altitude of these balloons is about twenty kilometers. The balloons contains solar-powered electronics inside a boxy gondola. These electronics send high-speed cellular Internet coverage to devices. The balloon has special software that guides these balloons while they are in flight. Project Loon is named for its flying ability and for being an insane idea. What a technological world we live in!

The Facebook project appeared in 2014. A company that was bought by Facebook made solar-powered drones. Google was confident that their idea of balloons would stand a better chance than Facebook’s drone idea. There were several reasons. The loon had been around longer that the drones. They had worked out the kinks so to speak. Drones are also more expensive to build and operate. The balloons were more cost efficient. The Facebook drones had the same goal as Google’s balloons, provide internet to people who lived far away from connections or to rural areas basically. Facebook’s plan was “hundreds of drones will be lifted into the sky by helium balloons and left to circle at altitudes of 60,000 to 90,000 feet-far above commercial airlines and weather systems” (6). This new advance creates innovative technology. It has lots of great benefits and is a wonderful opportunity for these poorer countries. By this advancement, companies and jobs can excel and be more successful because of the technology these projects provide. Not only is this helpful to businesses, but it helps everyone get connected to different places around the world. One of the best things to me is the idea of medicinal discoveries and doctrinal help that can be shared now because of these projects. My mother passed away with breast cancer so the importance of medicinal treatments and discoveries is very important to me. In the future, I would like to see discoveries being made for treatments. Discoveries being shared and discussed is such an opportunity that cannot be explained for not only cancer victims but for all sick victims around the world. Some of these rural countries may create cures that we had no knowledge of, but now the ideas can be shared over the internet that they have been able to receive because of these
