Writing project four reflection

The group assignment for writing project four was by far the most creative and fun experience from all the other projects previously assigned. It allowed creativity and a place for broad interpretation which made it interesting. Our project was about the freshman fifteen and its health dangers during the first year and above to a college student. In the essay we discussed the many points on how to prevent this phenomenon and what the university can do to reduce its reoccurrence. As a group, we did well in many aspects including reaching our own deadlines and understanding what is expected of us and when. We were all able to understand the objective and work together to come up with a single project that incorporated all of our ideas. As a group member, I did well on understanding what is expected of me and finishing my assigned work on time. I was able to change and submit my part of the essay on time, despite having to change the topic of our project. I felt like as group we didn’t have many weakness due to our division of labor

We were able to come up with the solution that suggested, by changing vendors that provide foods with high fat and sodium to those who can provide nutritious and healthy foods, we can reduce the amount of unhealthy foods available in and around campus. Therefore, reducing the accessibility and preventing the over consumption of these types of foods. To show the seriousness of this problem we drew the picture of “The evolution of weight gain”. The picture was drawn to show the considerable weight gain of a student as he increased meal portions and was loaded with more stress during college. The drawing was there to show that if proper eating choices are not practiced, weight gain will continue to happen past the first year of

The management needs to emphasize on the need of making healthy foods available such as whole grains, proteins from natural sources such as eggs and poultry and fruits to enable the students to make the right choice on the foods that they ought to undertake. Additionally, the management of the institutions needs to contract suppliers of the healthy foods to enable them to supply the institutions at a relatively lower price. Buying the foods cheaper would result in relatively more reasonable costs to the students when they buy the healthy foods. According to research, the preference of many youth and millennial on the fast moving consumer goods and binge foods is based on the relatively low costs and the affordability of the said products (Johnson 21). Therefore, making the healthy foods exclusively available and the relatively low prices would lead to a change in food preferences by the student and facilitate them in making decisions to have the healthy…

All these poor choices student have do not really help them maintain their health. Research from the CDCP (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), NCHS (National Center for Health Statistics), and NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), have shown that between 1988–1994 and 2005–2008 the popularity of obesity increased in adults at all levels of income and education. Non-profit organizations, CDCP, NCHS, NHANES, and more came up with some strategies that would help children and teenagers and adults to get healthier. One was to increase the P.E classes for longer minutes, second one is to improve on school lunches,…

In this essay, I am going to discuss how reflective practice leads to learning and improved patient care. I will also discuss the Gibbs and Johns reflective cycles and justify their use in continued learning. Reflection is something that many of us do on a daily basis without even realising it. It is a process you go through where you recapture your experiences, analyse and evaluate them, to make sense of them.…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

The Freshman Fifteen is a generalization which suggests that once high school students go off to college, they gain fifteen pounds by the end of the year due to a variety of factors. And, unfortunately, there is always a grain of truth in generalizations. A few variables that add to this generalization are: “new eating habits, not enough exercise, drinking, and a slowing metabolism” (Health). There is no permanent cure for this dilemma, but there are steps that college administrators can take to help students from falling into these bad habits. By examining the dangers students face today, instituting a health dynamics class with a three pronged attacked where the professors discuss how the body will react to these bad habits, the importance of health, and how to stay healthy would help conquer the Freshman Fifteen.…

Two out of three people in America are overweight or obese. More narrowly, three out of ten college students are overweight. Many Americans would say that when students go to college, they gain weight because of the sources and stress that college impels. There are even expressions for this such as the “freshmen 15” meaning that many freshmen gain 15 pounds while in their first year of college. There are many causes for why there is such bad health and obesity on college campuses.…

Project Citizen has been a wonderful experience. That has taught me many things that I can apply to my daily life that I may have never even thought of if I didn’t do Project Citizen. Even though I had a great time doing this project, I learned most people like to do less work and especially if someone is willing to pick up their slack for a better grade. When working in a team it gets a little hard to find motivation unless you all talk and make a clear plan of what people are doing for the group and when they need to have it done. There were times when our group lost focus really easy and we found ourselves scrambling with things that could have been done if we would have just sat down and defined a day that we wanted it done.…

Discussion The study addresses two questions: How do college students obtain the meals they are eating? Why are they consuming this food? According to my results, I found that food being accessible, cheap, and a healthy option factors heavily into the way a college student plans their diet. College students are aware that they should be eating healthy, however they have little time and money that cannot be wasted towards food, so they look for meals that help them save on both, all while still being a somewhat healthy choice.…

The healthy options at many universities are not always the best selection. To be more specific, here at the University of Oklahoma, the choices are very limited. Oklahoma is ranked number 6 in the Adult Obesity Rate, and it all starts with eating habits learned in early years all the way to up college years (“Adult Obesity in the United States” 1). The university has made it more convenient for students on a meal plan to eat fast food, instead of a healthier option or that the healthy option is just wheat bread and turkey which is rather boring after having it for lunch more than once. Consequently, the Freshmen Fifteen is a genuine problem for students who are using the meal plan on campus.…

What I did during my senior project I researched famous figures, events and organizations such as Mary Mahoney, she was the first African American female to become a registered Nurse. The Scared Twenty a group of nurses who were the first on the battle field during WWI. I also volunteered at children's hospital in downtown St Paul, my duties included taking patients and guests to and from their destinations, appoinments and I would also provided relief for parents to take a break or run erranes, I also distracted kids from the fact that they’re in a hospital. I would say a weaknesses of my project is that I didn’t go more depth about the different types of nursing and their rate of pay. The strengths of my project are the very hands on expeirence, the reseach into the stas and famous African American nurses.…

College obesity and malnutrition is defined as a medical condition that affects college students and young adolescents struggling to understand the right way to eat and the correct amount of physical education that is needed. Adolescents who are obese are considered to be one of the Leading Health Indicators under the topic of nutrition, physical activity, and obesity in Healthy People 2020. Education courses about the right food to eat and the right amount of exercise needs to be incorporated into a class that students would need to attend. Showing these kids the right way to do things in college allows them to have healthier options rather than the unhealthy food that is served. College students are experiencing what it’s like to live on…

You could say we went through the “forming” and “storming” stages of group work that semester. Second semester, after we had an opportunity to analyze each other’s strengths, we were able to work much more efficiently. We evolved into a united group with common goals, and this evolution is reflected in the deliverables we created in 732 to 752. We learned a lot about the questions to ask when designating roles on a project and paying attention to identify these strengths. We also learned about our own strengths in the process.…

Everyone has time to be healthy Freshman 15 is an expression used to describe an arbitrary amount of weight students put on in their first year of post secondary studies, usually due to unhealthy eating and poor exercise habits. Students say they struggle finding a balance between work, leisure, and maintaining healthy habits, leading to a lack of exercise, and poor nutrition. These complaints are clearly caused by a lack of intrinsic motivation and a growing status quo of complacency, rather than actual time constraints. Despite the vast number of home workouts that one can complete in under ten minutes, students will still excuse themselves from any form of physical activity, in favour of inactive alternatives. The problem is further pushed…
