I will incorporate a jigsaw strategy for the guided practice portion of this lesson. There are six pods of four students in this class, so I will assign each pod one of the remaining six habits. Each of the four students will be assigned to become an expert in one of the four graphic organizer topics, and they will use the book as a resource to complete the box. I will go from group to group asking guiding questions, answering questions, and helping struggling students; students may help others in their pods as well.
Once each student has completed their topic box, they will return to their groups and share their work with the others in their pods, discuss the work and modify it if needed, then copy the work into their own graphic organizer. I will also move from group to group to help clarify, or settle disputes about the information. Students will be directed to help others in their pod if they finish early. Once a pod of students have completed their note taking graphic organizer, I will look it over to check for appropriate completion.
