Argumentative Essay On Project Based Learning

When most of us think of high school, we think of dull periods of listening to a presentation that we will never retain past our short term memory. This “dull” form of learning prompts high schools across the country to search for the next method of educating the youth of America. In recent years, project based learning has caught fire. It is praised for its ability to challenge the young mind in new ways, while allowing students to grow in ways that traditional learning could never achieve. Critics are wary of this form of teaching due to its lack of rigidity and inability to provide students with the method of learning they have grown accustomed to. This is good because there is little doubt that students have the information they need to advance in the classroom and proceed to more advanced topics. Although this breeds good test takers, it creates students that lack the skills to perform collaboratively with others. As a graduate from a high school who was one of leading programs for project based learning, it becomes very apparent that other students lack many of the skills to be able to efficiently work collaboratively with a team. Project based learning is very good for the growth of students. It forces students to adapt to their situation and succeed when they are placed out of their comfort zones. In addition, it always for a customizable learning experience. Students are able to flourish in an area that is unique to their talents. Not only can they express themselves, but they can take on a project and make it their own.
