The space industry, the mysterious agency where billions of dollars are funding it, however the most useful thing to come out of it is a picture of another galaxy. Therefore, it is not encouraging when taxpayer’s money goes into a program that has little intrinsic value when the money and resources could be going to governmental departments that give back to the people. Therefore, if the space industry stopped receiving funding for frivolous matters such as counting planets that we will never reach in a humans’ lifespan the people could be better for it.
In some states teachers have to buy their own teaching material, and across the United States college students fall into an ever growing blackhole of debt to get an education. However, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s budget is almost 20 billion dollars; if the money was not allotted to NASA that money could easily pay over 667 thousand college loans (Atkinson). Therefore, using the national budget on pursuing the cosmos is a reckless and irresponsible behavior. Therefore, in its place agencies that really need the money should get the budget from the space industry. This could bring a new era to the education system, a stronger defense against possible threats, and better help for veterans. Why should a space industry that has a primary goal of leaving Earth be funded when there are so many problems on Earth? From terrifying pollution to global diplomatic tension ready to snap, not fixing the problems on Earth before exploring the universe could be a potentially dangerous aspect.
