The program that I developed in Module two’s SLP assignment primarily revolved around mentorship of high school aged children in an “at risk” category for teen pregnancy and birth, the program would pair an at risk teen with a working professional to develop a success track to the youths desired profession. This mentor/mentee relationship would allow the youth to develop their own goals in order to give them direction to towards their success improving their performance in school and keeping them away from harmful choices that could ultimately effect their long term goal. Looking through the feedback from my module 2 SLP I have refined the goals (1 behavioral and 1 learning) to outline more specific criteria that is both specific, measurable, attainable, result and time focused (CDC 2009).

The purpose of activities is to provide the means to accomplishing the programs objectives, a good way to determine which activities will be most effective is to gather data from some type of assessment (Lavinghouze M.A; Haiden K n.d). For many adolescence teenage pregnancy and birth can be contributed to issues such as social, economic, cultural and psychological factors to include poverty, school failure and all forms of abuse. The purpose of a long term mentorship and work program is to provide motivational strategies by improving educational and economical services (setting them up for professional success) to help lower “risk taking” behavior that can ultimately lead to teenage pregnancy and substance abuse (Advocates for Youth n.d).
