Based on what I learned this week about the different program evaluation model, I don’t think you can select a single model to be the most effective, practical, or preferable model for everyone. “There are few perfect evaluation designs, because no situation is ideal, and there are always constraining factors, such as limited resources.” (Fitzpatrick, Sanders, & Worthen, 2012). Although, I learned that some models are best to use in a certain evaluation than others. For example, the consumer-oriented approach has been used by government agencies and independent consumer advocated to make information available on many different products. Therefore, as a program evaluation you should know the different model approach and know when and where to use each model and also know each model benefit and limitations in order to have a successful evaluation.

In this week resources, I learned that different evaluation approaches could be more appropriate for one specific program evaluation than others. Just as mention above, at one point or another we as a consumer have relied on the consumer-oriented approach or even participated by completing a survey or provided our feedback about a specific product. However, this evaluation would not be effective when evaluating a non-profit program such as a drug and alcohol prevention program. Because, the consumer-oriented approaches focus on products, and accountability, for use by consumers in choosing between competing products. This is the reason, I mention that an evaluators should careful consider the evaluation design, because the design is critical to the outcome of the program evaluation. Therefore, the main task of an evaluator is to plan an “optimal evaluation as opposed to an ideal evaluation and to give a lot of thought to select the best design for all

The field of evaluation has grown and continues to develop into a field of many facets. Several aspects of the field are easily divisible into three categories: Values, Methods and Use. Of the three categories, the valuing branch places great focus on an evaluators ability to place value on their findings while also selecting which outcomes to further examine. Much like the evaluation process, the Urban Options Projects incorporates a level of importance for value. Not only does the program seek to improve the level of assistance to youth within the Lafayette County community, the program seeks to conduct an external evaluation to ensure that the comprehensive program is impacting the lives of students around.…
