Professor Ping Koy Poem: Mathematics, Physics And Music

‘The only thing compulsory is fun,’ I’d like to quote Professor Ping Koy Lam. This statement may sound dubious or lazy when claimed plainly, or perhaps a weak attempt at ‘the moral of a story’. However, to Professor Ping Koy Lam, this was exactly what led him to his accomplishments today. Professor Lam was born in Penang, Malaysia in 1967, and grew up inspired by men of science, His passion for science was deeply imprinted on him during his early youth by his brothers, father and a few scientists. Living above a vinyl record shop, he was immersed in music from 9a.m. to 9p.m.
He always had a love for wildlife. He had a white Japanese spitz name Mindy after the comedy series “Mork and Mindy” and reared many colourful Malaysian fighting fish, breeding them and training them for fights. After he was done, he would …show more content…
During his schooling years, he was easily the top scholar and the best in both academics and co-curriculars. He had a particular interest in mathematics, physics and music are, but why these subjects? Although mathematics, physics and music are three greatly different subjects, they share plenty of similarities -- the manifestation of the beauty of symmetry in their own ways. They evince both chaos and order, showing that the relationship between each can be transient and mercurial. He was a good student. He knew it, his classmates knew it, and his classmate’s parents knew it. While he furthered education in college, he was the academic student of the year. Not only did he come first in the team event for talent time, but also, won the best performance in the school’s sport meet. This was most likely owing to his undying persistence.
