Professor Montiel's Grading Criterias

Decent Essays
Professor Montiel had a clear grading criteria and provided good feedbacks for important assignments. However, he should probably consider paying more attention to fairness in grading in the future, as it is often associated with students' motivation and enthusiasm for the class. I constantly felt that my efforts weren't being valued and accurately reflected on my grade. Please make classroom fair place for everyone to learn, not a place to practice favoritism. Overall, thank you for a wonderful semester.

It was the beginning of May 2014 (end of 7th grade) and my dad had found out about a great opportunity. He was very excited and told me that there was going to be a new school built at the campus of Aurora University that was focused on STEM. My dad asked me if I wanted to fill out the application to go and I said no. I didn’t want to leave all my friends to go to a new school. My dad always forced me to try new things and new experiences so I knew he wouldn’t take no for an answer.…

There is no question that the American education system is flawed and is not the most effective to teach students a broad range of academic subjects. Students are graded on the ability to reproduce knowledge onto a piece of paper after days, weeks, or months of studying a topic. The lack of this ability results in failure to earn a passing grade in the subject matter. If the student can reproduce the desired knowledge at a highly proficient rate, they receive a rating that distinguishes them from other students. In “A Young Person’s Guide to the Grading System,” an article written by Jerry Farber, a professor of English at the University of California at San Diego, the grading system is put at fault for the flawed educational system.…

In college, students want to receive the highest grade so that they can be part of the Dean’s List or look good on their resumes. Edmundson mentions how some professors soften the grades of their students. I agree with Edmundson with this reason because at the previous university I attended, my math professor exempt most of the class because of her absences throughout the semester. She ‘felt bad’ because she didn’t have time to teach her class. The worst part was that students believed they got exempt because they were ‘good enough’ in math.…

A formal and an informative tone was used. She tried to get her point across that inflation of grades should not be acceptable and it is happening too often. This was emphasized when she proclaimed, "I had the numbers to back me up, and I wouldn't budge on her grade," after another student asked her if she could bump up her B-minus. Shepard includes experiences from her own life to make this article more personal. The story of even her own son receiving a bad grade helps drive her point that A's aren't always crucial.…

Steven M. Cahn in his article Guiding, Grading, and Guarding, is about several aspects in the life of a Teacher. How to make students comprehend the session’s teachers taught, the problem with the grading system, and the trouble a professor faces controlling a classroom they fear. This article could not be any more accurate about the problems we face in our school systems. Dr. Cahn describes how great teachers not only motivate their students, teach the material at hand, and organize a classroom, but also provide a vision of excellence. Describing how teachers have to enter a new classroom with a goal of the progression of its students in mind.…

Writing Sample Without a doubt in my mind the best class I have taken in the past two years of my academia was my high school Spanish class. I developed a very good relationship with my instructor Sr. K, that was probably the biggest reason it was my favorite class; However, the way his class was stuctured and how he taught contributed it to being my favorite class in the last two years. We would always start the day with a class plan so everyone would know what was going to take place in class and the next. Sr. k was very detailed in lessons…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. Before this course, I did not know grammar well, and what I did know I did not fully understand. Yet, due to taking the course, I learned more about the structure of the English language, and can use grammar better than I did before. For instance, the first three major assignments were filled with missing comas, verb-tense misuses, and run-on sentences. Now, I may still make mistakes, but I know why I have made them. In other English courses, I had grammar homework and reading assignments that, often, seemed to be busy work, but with this course, I did not think that was the case.…

Carl Singleton, author of “What Our Education System Needs Is More F’s” feels that the educational system should give more F’s to students that do not master the required material in classes. Singleton feels that giving the students more F’s will not only save money, but will force parents to focus more on their students and grades. He also feels that giving more students F’s will explain a lot about the educational system, the teaching style of the teacher, and the student effort towards work. An analysis of Singleton’s article reveals an unstable argument. Singleton argues that giving more F’s to students will be a good thing for the educational system.…
