Professionalism in the workplace can mean different things to different people.
Some people may think that people have to go by certain standards or they are wrong.
Some people may also not take their jobs seriously or may not have the passion for their job and might treat people unfairly. There just might be some people that might just appear as if they don 't care, but they are actually a good person. I believe that caring is an important part of professionalism because if you don 't have passion then you probably won 't like your job and you would get burnt out at the job easily and not want to work there anymore. Caring is viewed as a central focus of patient care.(Potter Pg.519) I know when I go into a doctor’s office and the nurse has a smile on her face and shows that she cares about me, it makes me feel more at ease and not so scared to be in the doctor’s office. When someone isn 't being passionate or caring, it is usually easy to tell by their tone of voice or even facial expression.(Potter)

(Flodgren 2012) I would want my nurse to be able to explain a procedure to me or even be able to explain a medication that I am taking. A nurse needs to know how to problem solve a situation when a problem comes up.(Potter)t I think that sometimes the more knowledge the nurse has the more respect the nurse will have. Therefore, critical thinking plays an important role and nurses that use critical thinking should be able to act on their feet when a problem comes up, and provide good patient care.
