Professionalism In Psychology Essay

The psychology professionals provided in the three slides were very professional in a way that best suited their profession. They were all in official attires that made them look very official in their field of work. In the first slide, the female professional was an official blouse that effectively made her stand out as a profession. The man in the second slide also wore an official shirt and so is the lady in the third slide. They all look professional and presentable even before their clients and can easily distinguish them from their clients. Their official dressing codes makes them very effective for their job profession. The professionals in the second and third slides are taking notes as they talk to their clients a move that shows their professionalism. Taking notes is a very critical part of being a psychological professional to avoid forgetting about the critical information of a client. These attributes include endurance as these experts work with people with various psychological issues bothering them and most of them are very emotional. These client’s often break down into tears when narrating their life issues and it is the job of the professional to listen, keep them clam even when they narrate a very emotional story that catches the heart of the professionals, and help them devise a solution for their problem. Another issue is empathy for their patients to avoid appearing like listening robots when dealing with their patients who lack any emotions (O'Hagan, 2006). The professionals have to show emotions such as being genuinely sorry for the client’s problems without being too emotional. The professionals also have to have critical skills to read between the lines and understand when a client is lying or holding back in order to be in a position to fully help out their
