Arizona Revised Statutes 32-3251 Unprofessional Conduct section has more than twenty-six items lists (2011). A quarter of the codes are meet simply by good citizenship conduct or personal wellbeing; follow the law, be honest, obtain help before becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol. There are codes very specific to the information we are learning in this class and available through continual learning opportunities. Professionals should ensure they are seeking continued education in areas related to professional conduct and ethics along with individual areas of interest they have. My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. This week in field was not too busy, but was busy enough to allow me to experience and complete new tasks. According to Health Professional Council Authority (2015) conduct pathway “allows the council to manage notifications (complaints) that may constitute unsatisfactory professional conduct or professional misconduct”. Furthermore, according to Staunton and Chiarella (2013) “unsatisfactory professional conduct includes conduct that is substantially below the standard reasonably expected of a registered health care practitioner of an equivalent level of training or experience”. Based on the case study of Conyard [2015], the nurse was not able to recognise and respond to the deteriorating condition of the patient when the vital signs were in the red zone, in addition, the nurse was not able to document all the necessary assessments and plan of care. According to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (2011), recognising and responding to deteriorating patient includes measurement and documentation of observations, escalation of care, activating rapid response system and communicating with the team about the clinical deterioration. Students’ skills are best improved through practice, but before practice, observation is a key component to learning.
