I have learned that being professional is important and it takes time to become a great leader. Being a great leader in your community gives you a voice to express how early childhood teachers work with children and families. We, as educators, should have high expectations for the children and families. For example, believe in them and have patience with them. The environment needs to be positive and conducive to learning for young children. I believe that I am aware of what it takes to be an advocate. It requires strong communication skills and determined mind to speak for Children. Therefore, an advocate has to communicate as well as collaborate in order to make a difference in the lives of others. An advocate also needs to have direct teaching experience with young children and families and the community (Rigby, E & Neuman, M., 2005). As I reflect on my growth of being an advocate, I realize it is important to stay familiar with and open to the changes in early childhood studies. This will help me be make a more valuable and beneficial contribution to the

I have worked within this field in various capacities that made me question the individuals I worked for and how I viewed and valued the (EC) profession. The DEC codes in particular discuss the enhancement of children’s and families quality of life when investing in child care development. Under this code #2 we should be able to identify professionals that recognize the responsibility to improve the developmental…

In early childhood leaders are expected to give direction; this can be in the form of new programs, expand service delivery, and policies to improve effectiveness. The role involves promoting a positive working environment, which allows educators to participate in collaborative learning communities. As leaders promote a positive working environment this allows educators to learn from each other and further develop professionally (ACECQA 2017). As leaders promote a positive environment this also fulfils, the responsibility of making sure that fellow professionals meet the needs of children and families (Rodd, 2006). Two key points from our reading of “What do we mean by Professional Development in the Early Childhood Field?” is that of “professional development encompasses all types of facilitated learning opportunities” (Class, 2008, p.2) in which case we do not need to sit in a classroom for months at a time to develop learning, but professionals can attend workshops, lectures and that are less formal to develop skills they desire for professional development in their area of need. Another key point is “The early childhood workforce constitutes a group of professionals who are widely diverse with respect to their roles” (Class, 2008, p.2) Not everyone in EC workforce has a degree, but their knowledge of working with children can benefit everyone in…

During my time in the child studies M.Ed. program, I pursued opportunities that focused on providing and improving interventions for children in home- and school-based environments. My knowledge in these areas was gained through three main experiences. The first experience was working as a data collector for a school-based intervention study which provides preschool teachers with a professional development opportunity to deliver targeted interventions to children with disabilities. The second experience was collecting and qualitatively coding focus group data from early intervention professionals who provide home-based intervention services to young children with disabilities in an urban area.…
