Characteristics of a professional writer
Writing is a great skill for anyone to have but for many professional writers it is a passion. Writing is a type of science that requires imagination. I have started writing since I was in elementary school. I used to write short essays and some of the essays were even less than half a page. I wrote about my school and my day. I even kept a journal that I will go back to and read from. The journal I kept brought to me great memories from my school and childhood. I even told many of my friends to keep a journal of their school life because one day they will enjoy reading it and remembering these precious moments. In addition to writing a weekly journal for my school life, I started to develop a habit for reading. Reading is essential to those who want a career in writing. Reading helps us learn about how other people write and give us ideas of what to write about. Besides that, reading gives us plenty of vocabulary to use to produce great essays.

Writing has always been a pastime for me. When I was younger, I loved writing stories just for fun or to have something to share with my family and friends. I remember being able to sit down for hours on end and write full pages worth of writing. Whether it made any sense, had proper grammar, and even if it was legible didn’t matter to me. It was writing that I could truly say was my own and be proud of.…

Every writer has wondered why they practice their craft, including myself. School has always been where the majority of my writing endeavors have taken place. I often fear that if I were not graded on my assignments, if I was free to submit whatever quality of work I chose, that I would not be a good writer. The doubt in my mind tells me that I write only for getting good grades, but that is not true. While school is a factor, I write mainly because I enjoy it, and because it is a place where I can organize and extend my thinking.…

Going back over my fifth grade notebooks has not once failed to make me laugh and cringe at my boy troubles and lists of cute boys in my class. I love words. I love reading them, writing them and interpreting them. Through all phases of life, I had a usual nature to try and write my feelings down and call it art, even if it were scribbles on a Post-It note. Same goes for the song stanzas I wrote in seventh grade that were really loosely based on a Taylor Swift song and are still relatable today.…
