Professional Strength Analysis

Decent Essays
A professional strength that I have is patience which is a powerful skill when learning something new and working with diverse populations. I also have the strength of problem solving which I find helpful when I have to make decisions on the spot that have long term consequences. Finally, I take great responsibility for my work and persona, which means I take responsibility of my bias when working with people and also producing excellent work. After working with children, I have learned that one of my weaknesses is being permissive. I was culturally raised to be agreeable and I am taking steps to have a more active voice. When learning something new, I typically enjoy mastering it on my own which has led me to be stubborn when asking for help.

An example of how theory informed practice in my field placement as a case manager intern is when I encountered a patient that had be discharged to a nursing home facility. The client wanted to be discharged home, where he lives alone, rather than to a nursing home, where he will be safe from falling. I decided to use the family centered practice approach to help the patient feel more at ease and be provided with his daughter’s support. According to Lietz, family centered practice is a strength-based approach that focuses on the strengths within the family to provide them with a proper intervention that will uniquely work for them (2011). Also, as a form of respect, social workers should be aware of the client’s cultural differences when introducing…

Strength based psychology is a relatively new form of psychological training and behavior modification strategy originally developed by Donald Clifton. His approach valued identification and maximization of an individual’s strengths instead of the traditional approach of identifying and minimizing weaknesses. To wit: “At its fundamentally flawed core, the aim if almost any learning program is to help us become who we are not (Rath, 2007, p. 3).” According to Welch, Grossaint, Reid, and Walker (2014), the use of strength finding assessment provide insight and awareness into an individual’s own thoughts and behavior improved leadership based on four critical themes was obtained throughout an organization even without the individuals realizing the changes they were exhibiting. Well the only strengths I have are being a leader when no one else can and working hard when its hands on. My weakness would definitely be procrastination, but that’s mostly due to my poor time management skills. I say this because when it comes to assignments, I’m not a critical thinker.
