Making gambling more available will increase the amount of gambling-related problems, (Volberg 239). Gambling is a problem that can be fixed. Few people suffer with a gambling related issue. The states can put the revenue they make into helping those people. As Butler states “In the case of the NCAA, no championship game will be allowed to be played in such states,”(Butler). The NCAA said they will not play in states that allow sports gambling. Professional sports games have rarely been thrown for money. Changing one law would not affect this problem much. The short term gains from legalized sports gambling would be outweighed by the long term problems it will cause, (Doyne) The short term effects of sports gambling would greatly increase the state's revenue and support the economy better. The long term effects would have little to no effect with the money they would make.
Professional sports betting should be legal throughout the United States; it makes sports more exciting, gambling already happens, and it would create revenue. Organizations should fight back against the law that does not allow states to create extra revenue. Individuals should write to their senator or congressman to propose a law change. Passing up free money is not the way to go. Because of this law, states have to pass up money that can help out the
