As the world of athletics has grown over the past decade, the financial means for athletes and each establishment associated with sport has become more complex than ever. From determining the payroll in professional sports, to figuring out what amount of money is budgeted for each sport at a high school or collegiate institution, has opened doors and become a new field of opportunity in itself. This paper will examine and explain the business of sport and recreation by analyzing the economic models in various sports and recreation institutions. The primary focus of this paper will be on the financial budgets that have been provided by two separate institutions and three separate athletic programs per institution.

Some of the athletic teams that are offered are, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, cheerleading, cross country for both men and women, dance team, field hockey, football, girls lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, co-ed track and field, and boys and girls volleyball to name a few. In addition, Parkway South athletic programs have won several state championships over the past 15 years.
