Feelings, opinions and interpretation or analysis of activities
This week in field I had the opportunity to sit in on a professional meeting. The meeting was geared towards fund raising and getting awareness out to the community about Southern Christian Services and the services that they offer. The meeting was made up of social workers and several different community business liasons. This was a very different atmosphere for me. I felt like I was outside of my element, because I have always associated and been involved with social work on a micro level. I have only dealt mostly with clients and their families on a one on one basis, so this was new to me. As I entered the big meeting room, I was immediately intimidated. I was intimidated because of the style of the room, which seems silly as I reflect back on it now. Competency 6 addresses: Engage with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities. Practice behavior 6.2 focuses on using empathy, reflections, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage diverse clients and constituencies. I was able to use reflection to address my feelings of intimidation during the professional meeting. Reflection allowed me to focus on my feelings and process them in a positive and beneficial way.
Competency 8 addresses: Intervening with Individuals, Families, Groups, Organizations, and Communities. The practice behavior 8.3 focuses on using inter-professional collaborations as appropriate to achieve beneficial practice outcomes. I was able to collaborate with other social workers and community leaders. Collaborating with these different groups and community organizations allowed me to observe and interact as a social worker on a macro and mezzo
