Establishing a professional learning community in my school will bring more teachers together and work as a team to achieve new goals and concerns affecting our students. Establishing a professional learning community in my district will help teachers understand the four different pillars that are critical in a learning community which are mission, vision, values and goals (DuFour, DuFour, Eaker, & Harhanek, 2010). In order for this community to be a success, all teachers, principals, vice-principals, counselors and all other staff has to agree and make a commitment to collaborate with others to promote student learning. I believe that my school would make a big positive change and benefit in many ways establishing a professional learning community. The ultimate goal of a teacher leader is to help create positive change that will benefit everyone in the school because participating in a learning community helps reach that goal (Laureate Education, 2008c). Even though many challenges will be faced in this process, I believe it is worth it to try and experience success. As educators, we need to take risks in order to promote change and be able to change our teaching practices to meet the need of all
