STATEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL GOALS
The first two sentences of the profile on my resume state: "Experienced and driven leader with a diverse background. Has professional and leadership experience in many fields, including the military, business, education, and nonprofits." My decision to apply to graduate school for an MBA has been a rather unconventional journey. I have held jobs in a variety of industries and disciplines. I have worked in retail, sales, food service, customer service, account management, the military, and professional ministry and counseling within the local church to name a few. My team and I showed up for our first day of work in mid-May and had to clean the pool for its opening on Memorial Day. The task was less than desirable since the pool was in disrepair due to the fact that it had not been covered properly the prior summer. This was my first time meeting many of my team members, but I could tell that they were not particularly excited to tackle this laborious and repugnant task. You must be willing to set the example for those following you. You must also be willing to do whatever you ask of those under you. When I jumped into the water at the YMCA I did so to show my team that I will work with them to complete the task at hand. If they needed an example of the standard of work I expected, all they would need to do is look to me.
This leadership style has greatly influenced how I manage others. It is my personal goal to encourage and empower those I manage to do their job effectively. I want all who may work under me to have a clear understanding of what is expected of them, and I believe it is my job to set and reinforce that standard in a constructive manner. Through many leadership experiences, I have found that my "lead by example" approach to management helps to establish a foundation of integrity, trust and respect with those I am leading.
