Nursing behaviours encompassed in the value of trust were perceived as most important while behaviours associated with the value of activism were perceived as least important. Nursing students placed a higher level of importance on values that relate to direct patient care and a lower level of importance on professional behaviours including involvement in professional associations, research, and policy development. The benefit of high professional values is forming a basis to being adaptable in all areas of the discipline. Therefore, nursing students should be able to distinguish between the influence of professional identity and self-interest in both education and career.
