In My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the differences between folk culture and popular culture is shown through the practiced customs exemplified by Toula’s family. For example, Toula was expected to marry young, explaining that Greek women were only expected to do three things in life: “marry Greek boys, make Greek babies, and feed everyone”, whereas in popular culture, women are no longer limited to the standards built around sexist stereotypes. In popular culture, it is more common for women to marry in their mid-twenties to mid-thirties rather than marry at the young age of fifteen. Another difference between the folk and popular customs shown in the film is the difference in traditions. While in popular culture, Christmas is celebrated by the…

Wellness Assessment Paper Two results that were surprising or helpful to me were my physical nutrition subtotal and financial average because I didn’t think that I was doing okay financially and doing everything right. Also, my physical nutrition was a surprise to because I thought I was doing everything but turns out I need to do some more work and improve on it a little bit. Having better physical nutrition can be motivated by my goal to lose weight and become a healthier person. This is all connected back to the holism theory which states that for most needs to be motivated and have some motivation to improve on and they also need to be arranged on a hierarchy.…

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…

I believe the way for someone to get the full effect of an accomplishment is do something and be proud of your actions. Mrs. Pullman’s courses gave us a little experience by job shadowing. By shadowing others in this profession gave me a since of hope for the rest of other semesters. After doing this I felt the need to keep on going because I got a glimpse of my prospective future.…

Overall, I was able to gain knowledge from this experience. However, due to confidentiality I wish I was able to share more with my professors and peers. I enjoyed how the program does not try to focus on socializing the clients, but gives them a choice if they would like to change. It’s not trying to assimilate them to be someone who they are not. As an intern, I learned how it’s about trying to get the client to realize they have the potential to beat their mental illnesses, diseases, and abuse.…
