As a researcher, one must consider the theoretical structures and methodologically reflect on research. This proposal proforma will inform and outline aspect of a conceptual paper that is intended to contribute to the award of Master of Education – Guidance, and Counselling. A common thread of thought suggests that professional identities are established as counsellors cultivate attitudes about their professional roles, involvement within the profession, ethical standards, and learning styles that reinforce higher-level cognitive functioning (Dong, Miles, Abell & Martinez, 2018). Dall’Alba (2009) described becoming a professional as a transformation that is unique to each individual. Some literature addressed the unique role of the counsellor within a school setting and links to impact on student achievement. DeKruyf, Auger & Trice-Black (2013) discussed potential roadblocks and offers suggestions for action within schools.
