Introduction
Professional ethics are core values for any company – being a responsible business partner, employer, customer or a supplier is an important part of professionalism and forms an essential foundation on which any business is carried out. Ethical behavior of individuals should not be just a reaction to regulation or legal compliance, but a means of growth professionally as well as personally. Being ethical at a work place gives individuals confidence in the work they do.

They often decide to follow the professional code of ethics when they act as a professional even though they may personally disagree with the specified code. However, every person has an option of resigning if their professional code conflicts with their personal ethics. This problem is not limited to professional versus personal ethics. All of us are challenged with the reality of rules or laws that we personally believe are unreasonable or corrupt. We have to determine how to resolve this tension. Being a practical ethicist, I would not always take a principled and extreme stance for every issue I come across in life personally nor professionally. For instance, I am fully against the death penalty, but I don’t feel like moving out of the state of Texas just because this state allows the death penalty and imposes more than any state in the US. At the same time, I also believe we must take an honorable stance in some instances even though we may have to pay a high cost for taking that route.
