The statement in which they ask if we believe it is fair that professional athletes and society entertainers get paid millions of dollars are year, while professionals who provide essential services do not is a bit flawed. The question is flawed because those are two professions cannot be compared. How does one compare an individual who trains all day and all night to become the best in world, verse someone who may just show up for their shift and leave. The reason why I say they are incomparable is because the two professions of an athlete, and teacher or nurse is that they are not on the same playing field or even same stadium. Professional athletes train and participate in their sport starting at the average age of 5. Most athletes play

Imagine you are a hardworking doctor or lawyer, and you aren't getting paid the amount you should be. Other people like you who are bettering our community aren't getting paid the amount they should be, and all of your tax money is going towards paying for athletic stadiums. Doctors, teachers, government employees, police officers, firefighters, and lawyers should be receiving the money that athletes receive. Professional athletes provide entertainment for society, but I believe they receive an unreasonable salary. Overall, athletes are overpaid because all they are doing is playing a game to entertain while other more important professions are making much less, they don't contribute to society, there are better places to use the money, and the money received could be used to pay for more useful causes that would benefit our society.…

Professional athletes, especially NBA players are harshly criticized of their high salaries because many people feel what they do does not amount to what they are being paid. They feel NBA players aren’t contributing enough to be paid on that magnitude. Many people can’t stand that NBA players are paid millions while teachers, doctors, lawyers, or other professions are making nothing compared to them. Many strongly feel that NBA players do nothing more than play a ball game. However, there is a lot that NBA players do that people are unaware of.…

Many people have recently raised controversy on the subject of whether college athletes should be paid or not. The student athletes feel they should be paid for their performance on the field due to the fact that they spend most of their free time on the field or court practicing the sport they love and they cannot afford to manage school, sports, and a healthy sleep life style on top of working to be able to afford things. College athletes should not be paid for their performance on the field. The student athletes should not be paid to play because they are in school for education, this could cause issues for colleges with auctioning, this can cause money problems for the student athletes, and sports are not a job they are a choice. Universities across the country make millions of dollars every year from college athletics. However, student-athletes receive nothing except for college tuition and room/board in return, even though they are the foundation of the entire industry. This one-sided trend must not continue, for college athletes often struggle to pay for transportation, clothing, a place to live and food to eat, while the universities reap the rewards from their labors. College athletes should be paid money in some form as compensation for universities using their likeness and profiting from their athletic exploits. The first reason college athletes should be paid is that while playing sports for their schools they risk injury, and they lose time for studying which can affect their learning.…

The debate on whether college athletes should be rewarded for their dedication to sports through payment has many different arguments to it. Although some would argue that athletes do not deserve to be paid, it would be fair for them to receive compensation for their hard work. College athletes should be paid because they deserve it based on the amount of the work they put into their lifestyle, the college sports industry would be more than able to afford it, and it is immoral and possibly illegal to prevent the athletes from being paid. Critics to this idea argue that there are already enough advantages given for being a student-athlete such as: generous scholarships, exposure to future contract opportunities, and access to beneficial networks (Text 3, lines 23,26-28). This is not entirely accurate, however, because many athletes struggle with maintaining a stable financial situation.…

According to some, getting a full ride to a college isn’t enough. Many think that college athletes should be getting paid because their sport, is their job. Others think that getting a full ride to go to school is enough and college athletes get enough benefits as it is. College athletes may take an educational decline to support their team but these athletes have many tools for success that everyday students are having to pay for. College athletes shouldn’t be paid to play sports because many are already getting scholarships to help out the financial aspect of college, recruiting athletes would be even more based on having a powerhouse, wealthy school than it already is, and these athletes are given an opportunity to become professional athletes,…

“People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that we need a lot of money because we spend a lot of money,” is a quote from Patrick Ewing, a famous NBA star. His quote directly shows that athletes are being paid too much. For example athletes get paid a great deal more than the working class. They also get paid way more than surgeons, who save lives. There are also orphanages who barely make enough money to keep the kids safe.…
