To be a professional athlete, it is usually someone's dream. It's not something that someone can just say it's what they want. But to be a professional athlete, they have to truly want it and believe that they can become it. It is not an easy thing to become. A lot of people don't make it. That person has to be dedicated to it. In a professional sport, there are drafts. Thousands of people apply for the draft but only a couple hundred actually get drafted. Being a professional athlete requires a high school diploma, long term on the job training, and the will to want to become a greater athlete.

Becoming a professional requires a high school diploma. "Athletes and sports competitors typically have at least a high school diploma or equivalent. They must have extensive knowledge of the way the sport is played, especially its rules, regulations, and strategies ("Athletes and Sports Competitors: Occupational Outlook Handbook:: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)" and it is probably because all kids worry about is sports these days.
