Like most people in military communities, it’s hard to point out my home on a map. While moving every few years predisposed me to revel in challenges and unfamiliar territories, it also posed significant challenges. When my family moved to Naples in 2008, from the massive cosmopolitan capital of Seoul to rural, grungy Naples, it was challenging in ways my family could have never anticipated. However, working and living in multicultural communities overseas has given me a global perspective, positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills that transcend languages and cultures. I rely on these skills in a number of jobs, including an administrative position that routinely dealt with foreign dignitaries, an internship at a global nonprofit, and an IT desk coordinating and setting up large-scale media events, to name a few. As an Admissions Assistant, I routinely communicated with foreign dignitaries and government agencies, maintaining a high level of professionalism. I looked over student finances, handled sensitive documents, and safeguarded confidential information. I’m currently interning on the Internal Communications team at the World Wildlife Fund, where I plan, coordinate and carry out events with over 200 employees. On the average day, I draft communications plans, assist with programs, and carry out other operational tasks as necessary. For the last three years, I’ve worked as a Technology Support Specialist. I assist faculty, professors and students and answer customer service calls. I also supervise several digital labs, making sure they are clean and the audio and visual equipment functions.
