At the Division of Children and Family Services, we play different roles as a mediator, caregiver, teacher and counselor. The objective of The Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is to help children attain a safe and timely permanency. Concurrent planning is an essential part of timely permanency. Also ensuring that an alternative plan is in place when it is possible the primary permanency objective cannot be achieved. The safety of our children is the most important thing. In this paper, I will talk about my professional and educational growth, as well as current knowledge, skills, education and career goals.

Professional and Educational Growth
My experience in Direct Practice II focused more on the one-on-one aspect with client’s. In Direct Practice 1, I did a lot of observing. I did not have a lot of one-on-one client contact. In Direct Practice II, I had my own case load. I conducted the needs assessment for my client’s, supervised visit, and took one of my client to different complexes to apply for an apartment for her and her children. I also had the opportunity to attended a CAC interview, and assist the worker with the removal of children from an unsafe home/environment. I enjoyed the opportunity in taking both of these classes. My biggest concern or difference in Direct Practice 1 and Direct Practice 2 was the curriculum. I wished that I would have had the chance to work more with the clients in Direct Practice 1.
