Profeminism Vs Anti Feminism Essay

Feminism is not something I really think much about. Prior to reviewing the readings and websites, I just assumed “feminists” were women with their group cause that may or may not affect me. The common thread among the different types I have noticed is that feminists and anti-feminists are very passionate about their particular position. Two feminist sites, now.org
(pro-choice), and newwavefeminists.com (pro-life) grabbed my attention.
The post on now.org (pro-choice) highlights the ongoing fight for a woman’s right to bodily autonomy in the form of abortion, with medical care provided in a safe, legal manner. It focuses on the fact that this debate has been going on for over 50 years. Women have the right to choose, and fighting to maintain …show more content…
The post states that society needs abortion in order to deal with rape and incest. It further explains that abortion protects rapists, and allows child predators to continually offend.

The post on now.org resonates with me. I believe that all women should maintain autonomy over their bodies. I cannot believe this continues to be a debate, each and every year. I see pro-choice just as that, the right to choose. Not to be restricted by government or others opinions and beliefs. While I respect the conflict between pro-choice and pro-life, I strongly believe that we as a society must maintain it as a woman’s choice.

I had to read the post on newwave.com a few times to make sure I was reading it correctly. The stance that reason abortion is necessary is because of rape and incest, and protects these offenders is at the very least disturbing. It further goes on to say that clinics must be held accountable for the “abortion lie”. Nothing about the right of the individual woman is addressed.
Seeing that the author deems herself a feminist makes me very uncomfortable. Feminism is supposed to broaden rights and the position of women in society. This type of thought does
