Prodigious Red Maple Reading Club

Inquiry is about being open to wonder and questioning. If you are an inquirer you are curious and always asking a lot of questions, you love learning, and you are using critical thinking. Inquiry is important because being an inquirer allows you to learn more than what you learn in the curriculum and be prepared for any forks in the road. I have demonstrated inquiry through extra-curricular activities by working and asking questions with peers in karate, use critical thinking in chess club, wonder what may happen next in the book I’m reading in the Red Maple reading club, and more. I’m always striving to gain more knowledge by participating and asking many questions in anything accessible to myself. Karate is one of the extra-curricular activities I participate in and show inquiry. I’ve been going to Shiva Fighters Karate for nearly nine years now and during those nine years I have achieved a black belt, which I got by asking questions about how I can perform better. During the reading clubs I ask questions even if they seem bizarre at the time, ask myself questions while reading as well as discuss and question about the book with my peers. While we discuss about the book, I ask any question about the book that pops into my mind. More often than not, the questions I ask that pop into my head are high-quality questions and they lead to bigger points in the discussion. This worked for me when I asked whether or not the main character in the book we were discussing about would do a specific action and it turned into a deeper meaning. I ask myself questions while I’m reading so I can get a better understanding of the book and so I can predict some events that occur later in the book.
