What does Leonardo da Vinci, Bill Clinton, and myself all have in common? Active participation in procrastination; a practice frowned upon in today’s society, but not even Noah of the Arc could prepare for the impressive amount of water that loitered on already heavily saturated carpets. A mini ocean within ones bedroom must lead to a rotten seed (Plant metaphors for the win!); one would think, but on the contrary! Delaying the much needed water proofing to our house, gave root to the independent adult I am today and is a direct catalyst for my transition from childhood to adulthood. Removing the optimistic filter, the flood damaged most of my possessions, left my room dangerous and smelling of mold, and devastated what I called “home”, but …show more content…

As a result, I started searching for anyone who would have decent pay and willing to hire a high schooler (Not an easy task). Eventually a friend’s mother; Mrs. Seuter, who owns Explosive Countermeasures International, offered me a job working as the companies unofficial secretary. People like to make fun, but that is serious career unlike any I had had before, one mistake and there could be severe repercussions, not necessarily with Mrs. Seuter, but with the …show more content…
An agreement between myself and Mrs. Seuter was made, in return for my work, I reside in a little loft equipped with bathroom, kitchen sink, and a mini refrigerator; this is what I call “home” now. My transition from childish seed to blossoming flower was made possible because of my dedication and passion to make the most of the education I received and strive to help those who are “fighting their hard battle” exactly as I did before and will continue to do. No pity parties in this greenhouse! There are no excuses in the real world; which means as an adult, I understand life’s not fair, but that’s okay because I’m fortunate enough to have this life and just as capable as Albert Einstein, Nelson Mendela, or the person reading this essay. If I want to become the first veterinarian, aerospace, biomedical engineer on Mars, then so be it! I’ll work hard every day to keep growing farther and farther until I reach my dreams, how’s that for a

David Wallace Foster’s Kenyon College Commencement Speech is extremely successful for a multitude of reasons. It is not so much inspirational or revolutionary or epic, just simply honest. His speech is blunt about what people will face in their life after education. That adult life is boring, repetitive, trivial, tiring. In my earlier years, I was largely inspired by Christopher McCandless, or known by his moniker as Alexander Supertramp. His story portrayed in the book and the movie Into the Wild speaks volume to me. It shaped my perception of living as I find myself going through phases in life. A similar figure that inspire me is Henry David Thoreau. In his book, Walden, he wrote, “most of the luxuries and many of the so-called comforts of life are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind.”…

It is often interesting viewing your world and reality through the eyes of other people, listening as they decipher and make assumptions, none all that accurate, about the facts, while you 're left to live those facts. Americans have a lot of opinions about Haiti and about as many questions too. As soon as people know that I’m Haitian, I get flooded with questions that I highly doubt they want the answers to: “Why is Haiti so poor?” “Do you do voodoo?” “Where does all the relief money go?”…

Draft 2 After re-reading my first draft several times in preparation for this, a realization struck me questioning what the heck I actually meant by my personal philosophy. Despite my bold statement of setting out on the path to break free from this preset pattern of life for us; for an individual to achieve the unattainable heights of success or notoriety, I cannot help but feel a slight cringe. The reason for this contributed to me truly realizing just how little I knew about human life, and this haunted me causing doubt within myself and whether what I wrote was complete fictional gibberish for a class, or if it something that I actually believe in. In spite of the short duration between the previous draft and this, my philosophy to…
