Instead, I have found myself sucked into Ace of Cakes because I had no idea where to start. Procrastination is like a contagious disease that many students fall victim to. When school work starts to pile up and school becomes increasingly more stressful students tend to resort to other activities to avoid their responsibilities. Many students struggle with meeting the expectations of their classes and tend to fall into the rotation of putting off assignment until last minute. A few common types of procrastination seen among college students are social media, competing obligations, over-lenient deadlines, …show more content…

On the contrary, active procrastinators deliberately procrastinate as they prefer to work under pressure (Chu and Choi). Studies have revealed three major themes in active procrastinators which include purposeful delays on school work to facilitate greater efficiency even if it means losing sleep to get the work done closer to the due date, systematical procrastination to attain passing grades, and appealing academic social outcomes which leads students to do it again because they conceived a satisfying outcome previously and felt the action of procrastination to be worth the end results (Hensley). Recent statistics have revealed an estimated eighty to ninety-five percent of college and university level students suffer from active procrastination, and thirty to fifty percent of students said they had difficulties with preparing for exams, beginning the written process of papers, and doing class readings (Yerdelen). Statistics revealed ten to twelve percent of those college students to be under extreme stress and one of the main stressors being school related due to procrastination (Peer et…

Athletics have been a part of colleges for over a century, but are they really worth all the time and money that they are given? It is a common myth that college athletic programs bring in tons of money for their school, but in reality, most athletic programs do not make enough money to support themselves. The main purpose of attending any school is to receive an education and become prepared for the real world. That is something often forgotten by student-athletes and schools themselves. Contrary to popular belief, eliminating athletics from college will have more benefits than keeping them.…

Zinsser says that students sometimes pressure themselves by trying to balance school work with extra-curricular activities, homework, and a social life. I would have to say that I would have to agree with Zinsser as I feel that I try to manage my time by trying to balance school work with extracurricular activities and socialize with my peers. But trying to maintain a social and academic life could have some negative effects on students. Students can screw up in both academic and social ways. If a student decides to go to a party instead for studying an exam they need to pass, then it can have a negative academic effect on that student.…

In William Zinsser’s article, “College Pressures,” he explains the four pressures students faced in the late 1970’s. The pressures include: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure and self-induced pressure. These students had an immense amount of pressure, and Zinsser’s wish was for them to delight in their educational journey. Granted, the pressures Zinsser mentions continue to exist nowadays; current students face even greater pressures. For one, in order to afford tuition, books and essential expenses, thousands of student work a full time job.…
