COMPARE/CONTRAST ESSAY Its seems that today younger generation students cannot focus when it comes to studying and the issue is caused by the invention of the internet. Most notably, the writers differ since one talks about multitasking and the other talks about internet addiction and the effects they could have on the person, yet both is caused by similar reasons; the internet.…

While reading a New York Times article written by David Brooks called, "Building Attention Span", I was reminded of my childhood. David Brooks argues in his article that because of the increase in technology and quick stimulations, our attention spans are growing shorter and our long-term memory is deteriorating. I agree with Brooks view because I have experienced this in my own life. I didn’t have much interaction with technology when I was younger, but the more technology grew the more I was exposed to it. Everyone around me seems to be distracted by that "cool new meme" or "the latest thing on social media.…

In my own field research (see appendix A), I observed that most of my peers, myself included are multitaskers. If you walk into any student space; the cafes, the library, in the common and even walking up and down the streets, it isn’t uncommon to see most students my age doing many tasks at a time. We are walking and checking our phones, posting pictures, sending messages and checking our email. If you take a look at our computer screens, we will probably have multiple tabs open because we aren’t done looking at one site when we quickly hop on the next because something caught our attention. In my first field observation, I noted that nearly everyone I observed was doing at least two or more activities simultaneously.…
