Do you find yourself frantically searching for your keys or the shoes you swore you kicked off in the living room just last night? Do you promise yourself each day as you walk out the door that when you return back home, you will finally tackle that disturbing mess you just left behind only to return home tired and so far removed from the early morning panic that you don't anything but add to it? You kick off a second pair of shoes and the cycle continues. Procrastination and disorganization go hand in hand and the consequences are more serious than just being late for work. Low levels of stress from nagging thoughts, such as guilt and shame, are associated with chronic disorganization. Friendships can be strained from not extending invitations to your home as well suffering embarrassment when caught off guard. However, none of this will happen until you identify the source of your disorganization.

Jen Burke of JKB Organizing and a member of the Life Solutions Center of Darien says that most of the clients she has helped in the 10 years that she has been a professional organizer initially resisted reaching out for help because of embarrassment.

Frequently, when Jen arrives at a new client's home, she is met with an apology for the state of disarray and almost always the question, "Is this the worst that you've seen?" The answer is always no. Those who suffer from disorganization seldom realized how common this condition is and more importantly aren't aware that being organized in your mind and environment may be something that you just were never taught and that learning systems that work and replacing bad habits with good ones is, many times, not the uphill battle you think it will
