What you will need:
• A pumpkin
• A marker
• Candles (preferably tea light)
• Matches or a lighter
• A spoon
• A sharp knife
• Newspaper
• A large bowl
1. Pick out a pumpkin - Visit a pumpkin patch or a grocery store that have a wide variety of healthy pumpkins, all shapes and sizes.
1.1. Purchase your pumpkin a week or less before Halloween as carved pumpkins tend to go rotten after delegated time
1.2. Make sure pumpkin if free of any bruising or damage
2. Decide on a design for your pumpkin – you may free hand, purchase or print a stencil that you would like carved on your pumpkin. (Stencils also included in back page of instructions)

Have the following at hand- a stencil (if needed), a marker, a sharp knife and a spoon
6. Take your pumpkin and marker and draw your design on the pumpkin.
6.1. If you are using a stencil trace the outline onto your pumpkin
CARVING YOUR PUMPKIN
7. Take your large bowl and place it close to your work area for any discards
8. Create an opening
8.1. Using your marker, create a circle or square with a 2-inch radius around the stem of the pumpkin.
8.2. Take your knife and begin to cut around the outline of the circle and draw the knife back and forth until the opening can be removed from the pumpkin, do not discard.
9. Remove all filling from the inside of the pumpkin. You can use your hands or a spoon then place all waste into the large bowl. The cleaner the pumpkin the more light that will shine through.
9.1. You can also keep the pumpkin seeds to grow your own pumpkins for next season.
9.2. You can also keep the pumpkin seeds to roast and have as a treat.
10. Begin to carve your design into the pumpkin. Lay your pumpkin, design facing upwards towards you
11. Carefully using your knife, a back and forth method to cut out your design entirely. Throw away discarded waste.
