How to saddle a horse A lot of the times little girls always want a pony. They seem like such fun when they are only a thought at the back of their mind. They want what they see in the movies. The pretty horses who are always well behaved and simple to work with, but they are far from easy to work with.
One of the first things that need to be done, is catch said horse. Sometimes this can be very easy, and sometimes it’s the hardest part of the job. Once the animal is caught take your lead rope and place around their neck. This is to ensure that the work that was done in the beginning does not go to waste when they want to run off. Place both of your hands at your side and stare at their hind end. This will make them stop and come in your direction. Be sure to pet them and talk to them. This is letting them know what they did was correct. It’s finally time to place the saddle on your horse, but first be sure to put the saddle blanket on first. This keeps the saddle from pinching them anywhere. The blanket will be about four inches up on their neck. Then flip the left stirrup onto the saddle so it doesn’t get stuck under the saddle when you place it on the horses back. Pull the saddle up on the horse’s neck, only leaving about two inches of the blanket showing. Tighten up the belly strap as tight as possible, but be sure to not hurt the horse. The final step that needs to be done before your horse is fully saddled, is to lunge your horse again for about 10 minutes. Because of the pressure on their stomachs due to the strap they will suck their stomachs in even more. Then just tighten up the strap one more time and your horse is all done. In the end the work is totally worth it, even though they are not easy to work
