My research this week focuses on qualitative data collection methods and recording procedures, (Creswell, 2014). The author has noted four different methods for collecting data in qualitative research study to include, documents, interviews, observations and audio and visual material, (Creswell, 2014). Each procedure is essential for capturing the data in an accurate and efficient manner. Documents are a great resource for acquiring data and are convenient in most cases to obtain. Documents can be in the form of emails, letters, text messages and public record, (Creswell, 2014). The second method noted is interviewing, which allows the researcher to interact, either face to face with the participant or in a group setting, (Creswell, 2014). The third method noted by the author is observation, (Creswell, 2014). Observation allows the observer to collect data through close interaction or at a distance, (Creswell, 2014). Through observation a great deal of information can be obtained regarding participant behavior and activities. Interviews conducted using a qualitative method are accomplished in a field setting versus an actual laboratory, (Creswell, 2014). With this type of setting it is important for the researcher to address the gatekeepers regarding prior permission, (Creswell, 2014).
