This book review will analyze different parts of the text Primates of Park Avenue and will discuss where Wednesday Martin succeed in proving her thesis. The author wanted to analyze the mothers of the Upper East Side of Manhattan and develop a better understanding of her peers since she experienced a change in her habitat. Wednesday Martin’s thesis argues that even the mothers that belong to the high social ranks of the Upper East Side of Manhattan show signs of basic primitive behaviors. Bonobos Classified as the “Pan paniscus” (Bonobos Exhibit), Bonobos are, genetically, the closest living relative to Humans, “sharing 98.7% of their DNA” (Bonobo Species). A little less than 100 years ago, the (descriptive word) monkey was commonly mistaken for “dwarf chimpanzees” (Myrtille Guillon). Comparatively to the chimpanzee, bonobos are much smaller, the misconception arose since the common chimpanzee and bonobos share a similar environment, separated only by the Congo river. Daniel struggled with anxiety for the majority of his childhood and adult life, and explains his experience with anxiety through the writing of his memoir. When Daniel was diagnosed with anxiety it was almost expected because both his parents also suffered the cognitive condition, so much so that his mother became a therapist in order to understand her own anxiety. The two primates I chose to observe were chimpanzees and orangutans. I had no particular reason for choosing these particular primates except for the fact that they were easier for me to access. I first observed the chimpanzees on April 23rd. I was able to do both a group and focus observation on the chimpanzees.
