Mexican Economy Problem

Improved Essays
In conclusion, the Mexican Economy has had to deal with the problems that any developing economy deals with. They have had to expand and help grow their economy but at the same time they have had to try and protect many different markets. We saw them sign various Free Trade Agreements that dramatically increased the state of the economy on paper. As a country it benefitted from such agreements because the standard of living increased. The reality is that poverty increased and close to half of the population now relies on government help. The problem with this is that not only does this hurt Mexico, but it also hurts The United States. Mexican families have always heard of the endless opportunities in The United States and then you add the fact that they cannot make a living in Mexico and you have a recipe for mass migration. The Mexican government really needs to work harder in coming up with and implementing policies that would increase the number of jobs. Not only do they need more jobs, but they also need to put in place a more realistic minimum wage. As it stands now, the minimum wage is a joke. In December of 2014 the Mexican government decided to raise the daily minimum wage rate by 4.2 percent. It now stands at 70 pesos a day, …show more content…
The biggest thing standing in their way is corruption. There is no reason for there to be such a wide gap when it comes to income distribution. There is almost no middle class as a result of this. We see the famous 1% such as Carlos Slim, second richest man in the world; continue to make money off the backs of millions that struggle to have enough to live on. This leaves the people wondering if the government is really there for the people or are they receiving bonuses to keep the situation as is. The distrust of the government will keep rising until they do something that is meant to better the lives of the common

A very familiar theme continues to hover over Mexico specifically when it refers to the economic woes the political system continues to mismanage. Politicians that simply run for office to help themselves, while screwing the Mexican over time and time again. It is a behavior that has been in place since the Spanish conquistadors took over, by introducing new policies that benefited the white European while physically, morally, economically, and culturally destroying all social progress for the indigenous Mexican. Mexico has always been rich in natural resources, landmarks and culture, but it has always struggled to maintain an economic system where... and once more Mexico found oil, one of its richest sources that could potentially gear…

The World of Mexican Migrants Migration of Mexicans is not a new topic, regardless of their destination. It has been going on for hundreds of years. Each migrant has a different story, and a different reason for moving. Of the Mexicans interviewed by Judith Hellman, the author of the book, The World of Mexican Migrants, it is clear that many of them migrated to the United States in order to create new and better lives for themselves, help their parents as much as possible, and raise a family in which all members are, and stay together: this migration has changed the lives of these people by teaching them to hold down a job, stay out of legal trouble, and save and budget their money. Mexicans of all ages migrate to the United States, for many…

Mexico got affected mostly in terms of economy because if Mexico had kept the land it used to have (including Texas) it would have had around yearly 4.355 trillion more US dollars (Or $4,355,000,000). In fact California makes up to 2.4 Trillion US dollars yearly (Or 2,400,000,000), so basically half of the GDP in Mexico's former territory. So, in conclusion if Mexico had kept their territory and all the company's that are currently there, Mexico would have a GDP of 5.616 Trillion Dollars (Or $5,616,000,000). US didn’t really want war, instead it was because in that time they believed that the expansion of the US was inevitable and both justified. The cause of the war was that the US was trying to annex Texas into the union because they knew that Texas had fine agricultural production, cotton in particular.…

The minimum wage was last raised in 2009, when it increased from $6.55 per hour to $7.25 per hour. Although we may be due for an increase based on the elapsed time, the decision to increase minimum wage relies on more than time alone to make the right choice. While America is in a better place now than we were back in 2008 and 2009, we are still feeling our way through the recovery phase of the Great Recession. Additionally, we are now sitting on the $19 trillion and counting of debt that the current administration has so generously bestowed upon us.…

I did not really know what to think when I started reading Labor and Legality by Ruth Gomberg-Munoz. I did not really know about the topic of Mexican immigration and their need to find work in the U.S. Honestly, most of my knowledge came from the media and what I had previously learned about how it was wrong that Mexicans were coming into the U.S and “stealing” our jobs away. However, this book changed my opinion drastically about not only the struggle that immigrant Mexican workers face coming to the U.S, but how we (the united states) as a country, only think about ourselves, instead of thinking of a broader world view of the situation. That, is what I am going to talk about in my paper, the U.S refusal to look at the immigrant network in…

The level of development of the three countries are different so the gross national income per capita shown in 2005 for Mexico, Canada and the U.S. are 7,300 dollar, 32,600 dollar and 43,740 dollar respectively. The Mexico shows the least gross national income per capita because there is an assumption that agriculture of Mexico will be enhanced by modernized and will become more productivity in future but in fact NAFTA does not provide financial aid to Mexico to this end for achieving the goals since the European Union already provided financial assistance for those old or new members under the common agricultural policy. NAFTA does not greatly provide benefit to Mexico. This can be said that exports are not an important determinant of economic growth.…

The Market Revolution transformed the United States into a highly industrialized country and acted as the catalyst for the diversity in the United States. However, the core of the Market Revolution was laid upon the desire to maximize profit. To achieve maximum profit, Americans turned to illegal means to acquire cheap land and labor. In the case of the Mexicans, Americans saw the abundance of raw materials in California and Texas and annexed the territories through border dispute. The Mexican landowners were left vulnerable to the American legal structures and lost the title to their lands.…

No matter how many quotes and song lyrics you post up, or however much you write your heart out, sometimes words just cannot describe how you feel it for yourself and that’s all there is to it. It’s really amazing how one song can change your mood, thoughts and emotion. In the same hand music can describe attitude of a person, or the feelings of the person who wrote the song. Some people criticize people by their songs, or people criticize the artist for their lyrics either way. Donald Trump had a similar thoughts about criticize other people he stated “On Mexican immigrant – They are rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.”…

In Fresh Fruits Broken Bodies: Migrant workers in the United States the author, Seth Holmes writes about how Free Trade has ruined the lives of indigenous Mexicans. Holmes goes into detail about how these trade ideas ate away at Mexico’s economy, leading to land wars and mass migration. Holmes, also delves into not only the economic cost of the neoliberal economic ideas, but also the human cost. Holmes also mentions how the indigenous people lost many of their own farms in United States owned farms and how that has forced citizens to leave and look for work. Free Trade is one of those ideas that had such great intentions, such as making it easier and cheaper to purchase products from over borders due to lack of things such as tariffs.…

Many Americans are against illegal Mexican immigration claiming that Mexicans are taking the jobs that belong to them. According to Michael Clemens, author of "International Harvest: A Case Study of How Foreign Workers Help American Farms Grow Crops-and the Economy" only However Mexican migrants do not come to the United States ostensibly to take jobs and weaken the economy. In increasingly unequal economic contexts and feeling unprotected from physical violence, migrants, who would rather remain with their loved ones, view migration as the only available measure to save their own lives and provide for their families. They fill the jobs that native workers refuse to take and thus have little effect on the employment levels of the citizens.…

This talk was exceptionally interesting to me because the discussion did not revolve around the same old facts about immigration, but instead it demolished some common thoughts. The event started with the speakers putting three sentences up on the board. The first statement was: “The majority of immigrants in the US are Mexicans”, the second was: “Lack of US enforcement at the Mexican border is allowing illegal traffic of people in the country” and finally the third one was: “The presence of Mexican immigrants is harmful to the US society and economy”. The crowd had to say whether they thought the statement was a fact or just fiction. Some people in the audience believed that the first two were facts, but the answer to the last statement was unanimous: false.…

Intro: The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, which means that depending on where you live, working for an hour will barely buy you a Chipotle burrito (this is without guac). Because of inflation, the minimum wage today is worth a few dollars less than before. Many politicians agree that we should raise minimum wage. Bernie sanders for example said “Nobody who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty, a job should lift workers out of poverty, not keep them in it.”…

Millions of people and families would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage. Today the federal minimum wage is currently at $7.25, but should be at nearly $10, or better yet even higher. But the last time Congress voted to raise the wage to its current rate of $7.25 an hour was seven years ago. Since then, the cost of life 's essentials have shot up. Groceries cost 20% more, a gallon of gas costs 25%more, and average tuition at a community college increased 44%.…
