The author wants Melinda to speak about her problems to face her problems in my opinion.
Throughout the book, Melinda has problems with her family. Her mother,and father do not have time for their daughter Melinda. Furthermore, She also has problems with her friends. When Melinda was at a party she called the law enforcement.
Even worse, there are the problems with her teachers. Melinda she can't really talk to them about her problems in her life.
At the end of the first part of the book, Melinda’s problem are causing her to not going to class.
