Teacher: Ms. Zapata
Time: Approximately 4 hours 30 minutes
Place: Seabourn Elementary This week's purpose was to find out from our mentor if they had ever participated in a PST (Problem Solving Team) meeting and to describe the process of it. Ms. Zapata has attended a PST meeting, there are five students that are in need of help. During the meeting they discuss what the problem is and what the solution can be found to help the student. Ideas are being bounced around and discussed with teachers, counselors, and administrators. After the meeting is over the teacher goes back to the classroom, if the solution that was discussed did not work they often try more. If the student was no longer a problem they are not fully released,

I was always aware of how court rooms worked and how judges listened to defenders and made decisions shortly after, therefore, I had assumed that a board of supervisors meeting worked the same way. Although, when I attended the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, it surprised me how they both were. The meeting started out with a Christian prayer from a reverend and then proceeded with the pledge of allegiance. It shocked me because normally everyone always keeps church separate from the courts and I had considered the board of supervisors a court, so I did not expect something that open. When Chairman Jones started the board meeting by, asking the board members if they had any conflicts of interest, it stuck out the most to show their…

On September 11, Kayla, Taylor and I attended the Parklane Group AA meeting. This meeting was covering chapter eight in the book Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions by Bill W. Before reading chapter eight, the leader of the AA meeting read aloud the rules and upcoming events, he then had us introduce ourselves. I was surprised to see that every time someone wanted to speak they first stated their name and referred to themselves as an alcohol addict. I thought this was only done in movies. However, I believe this step could help in the road to recovery.…

Firstly, reflecting on the lab simulation of our educational, behavioural intervention group, which was preforming in the working stage; with young women who were prenatal or postnatal; the socio-economic status was that of a lower income position. Sharon and I clearly had defined roles as facilitators, which we collaborated well between each other. There was a shared accountability when aiding in the group including mutual support of each other to help better meet the needs of the group, emotionally, educationally, and cognitively. With feedback from classmates and members of the group that was relayed back that the presentation was creative and well put together, it had a flow to the group. As facilitators we brought in our own life experience, and used informal educational tools and sharing to make the group feel inclusive.…

Upon walking into the NA meeting I attended, which was located at Lutheran Memorial Church in their basement on Erial & Blackwood-Clementon Rd, I felt extremely out of place because I am not familiar with this environment making me a “fish out of water”. The meeting was called Miracles on Monday, which is held from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM every Monday, and I would soon find that the name was very fitting for what takes place within those basement walls on a weekly basis. The normal feelings an addict has attending this meeting for the first time of apprehension, curiosity-not knowing what to expect were not apparent for me because my purpose of being there was different. The one feeling I most likely shared with an addict attending the first time…

A recent clinic meeting illustrates the potential contributions of my experiences to the class. Our doctor had just finished the buprenorphine prescriber training, and we were planning the logistical aspects of managing her suboxone panel. She laid out the differences between suboxone and methadone, explained each of our roles in care coordination, and presented patient cases that served as models for common situations. She described the patient attributes that predicted successful suboxone maintenance, and together the care team developed processes for the program like how urinalysis screenings would be carried out. During research for the meeting, I learned buprenorphine alone was usually not covered by Medicaid.…

The woman asked if I was receiving any awards, I simply smiled and explained that I was only there for the meeting. She nodded and continued to greet other people. As I walked in, I noticed a lot of people standing and speaking to one another.…

The sustainability team project exposed me to a variety of skills and concepts while dealing with a complex problem, one of them being team conflict. I would like to reflect on this, since my opinion about it has changed, as we progressed through the course. There were various conflicts that occurred during the project, but only one in particular was significant to change my opinion about team conflicts, it was towards the end of the project. When the team was discussing solutions to the complex problem, there was disagreement with the team on what the solution should look like. As, different team members had different opinions and expectations from the project, which led to the conflict within the team.…

The Five Dysfunction of a Team addresses those impediments that can prevent a group of people from working effectively and efficiently together towards a goal. My experience as a member of a Cornerstone formation team last year exemplifies how those obstacles make team work almost impossible and definitely unpleasant. I will summarize that experience and evaluate it in terms of the five dysfunctions explained in the book, ending with my assessment and recommendation on how our group could have overcome the dysfunctions we experienced. In the fall of 2014 I had only just moved into the Moscow area and joined a church close to home.…

When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…

Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…
