Provided are three different problem solving approaches. All three can be used within a team or individual setting, thou the second process I feel would be better suited to be used in the individual setting.

3. Forming a strategy
4. Organizing information
5. Allocating resources
6. Monitoring the process
7. Evaluating the results.

I want to only give you instance from my past where I had went wrong in the problem solving process. Most learn from others and is usually in what not to do. Observe their process and identify where they went wrong. In turn avoid the same mistakes and you will hopefully come to a better conclusion.
Out of the different process above, I feel 'finding your motivation' is the most important part of the process. We can look at each step in the process, take to heart every facet of each subcategory, but what you will not learn in any book and what no class can teach you is what motivates you. Because I have taken the time to analyze myself, I understand what drives and motivates me as a person.
