Problem-Focused Coping: Emotion-Focused Versus Cognitive Approach

Problem- focused coping focused on changing the environment itself or the way the person interacts with the environment. In other words, it is aimed at reducing the demands of a stressful situation. On the other hand, emotion-focused coping focused on the person’s emotional response to the stressor. People can regulate their emotional responses through behavioral or cognitive approaches. Behavioral approaches include using alcohol or drugs, watching tv, or doing something that keep their mind off that stressor while cognitive approaches is when someone sit back and carefully think about the situation and make notes on it just in case it gets bad.
